Library - Brant County OGS

The Brant County Branch Library is at 114-118 Powerline Road, on the grounds of the Smokey Hollow Estates, going east from
the Wayne Gretzky Pkwy, just outside the north-east corner of Brantford
Our library offers a friendly and casual environment to carry out genealogical research.

We have a collection of materials ranging from general "how-to" books for beginning genealogists to very specialized records for the Brant County area.

We have on loan many of the Brant County Women’s Institute Tweedsmuir  Histories such as, Alford-Park Rd., Tranquility, Grandview-Terrace Hill, Echo Place, Blue Lake-Auburn, Burford, Whiteman’s Creek, Cainsville, Onondaga, Glen Morris, Moyle, to name a few. We also have some from the area around Brant County and southern Ontario.

Our collection includes our branch publications (over 300) many of which are unique genealogical finding tools. Volunteers are on hand to assist library users in locating and using materials.

Hours of Operation are: Monday through Thursday 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, Saturday 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm and closed on Friday.

Library Automation Project

In 2001, our branch carried out a special Library Automation Project with the assistance of the Trillium Foundation, and all our materials are now listed in our searchable library catalogue, which we soon hope to have online. As part of this project, our library staff have prepared a number of Resource Guides to help users locate library materials in different topic areas.

THIS SITE HAS GONE THROUGH AN UPDATE! PLEASE CHECK FOR NEW INFORMATION.

Surname Finder Database

As part of the library automation project, we have set up a surname database of materials in our library. The surname database includes 3 types of records: family history books and booklets, our vertical file records of queries and clippings, and a collection of family name files donated to the library by the late Opal Howey, a local genealogist. If you find a reference to the name you are searching, you can contact the library for more detailed information.

The surname finder can be searched alphabetically by clicking on the links below, or by doing a Site Search.
